Addicted to That Rush

My bubblegum pink Twi’lek, Ki’lari Kess, was a Master Image Designer and a Teräs Käsi Master in Star Wars Galaxies.  Honestly, she was just my cutesy toon who could fight NPCs and earn money for my merchant/tailor/chef character.  I never took her out to fight against other players despite the TKM class being one of the hardier PvP classes.  It just wasn’t my style.

Ki'lari Kess

I did end up PvPing with her, and I remember my first true PvP experience like it was yesterday.  A guildmate of  mine had managed to unlock his jedi pretty early on in the game, and one of us would always go with him in case a bounty hunter showed up while he was working on his career tree.  Unfortunately, he was stuck with me since no one else was online.

We had been out killing creatures for an about an hour when a bounty hunter showed up out of nowhere and proceeded to attack my guildmate.  Instinctively, I ran into the fray, but players don’t react like NPCs.  I wasn’t quite sure what I was doing, but I attempted to knock the stuffing out of the bounty hunter.

My guildmate was cheering me on in Vent, and I was so nervous that I was yelling, which brought my husband over to my computer.  So there I was in my first PvP fight with my guildmate hollering for me to get the BH on Vent, my husband telling me to repeatedly do a Knockdown on the BH, and my hands were shaking so much I could barely hit the keys on my keyboard.

I finally managed to kill the bounty hunter to much cheers from my guild mate and my husband.  I was so overcome with adrenaline from PvPing that I couldn’t stop shaking and my heart felt like it was going to rip through my chest.  Until that moment I had never understood the draw of PvP.

Unfortunately, I never got that feeling while PvPing in World of Warcraft.  Trust me, I tried AB, AV, WSG, and even arenas.  They just didn’t do it for me, and I’ve never captured that rush again.  That is until tonight.

Tonight, I took Ilere out with the guild to play in the Tier 2 battlegrounds.  The guild formed two warbands and attacked some keeps within the battlegrounds.  It was a lot of fun taking the keeps from the Destruction side, but we weren’t meeting a lot of resistance.  That is until the last hour I did PvP/RvR (realm versus realm).

Since another guild was there with us, we left them to defend the keep while we pushed down the beach to meet the Destruction masses.  Our guild formed a pretty massive line, and the Destruction members were smart enough to stay out of range of our casters.  We were at a bit of an impasse, so our warband leader told warband one to follow him.

We cut back through the trees, skirted the edge of the beach, and came up behind the Destruction forces.  In front of us stood all the Destruction healers facing the opposite way like proverbial lambs for the slaughter, and slaughter them we did.  The best part was hearing our warband leader giggle with glee.  It was a well executed plan.

We fought like that for the next hour, and I can honestly say I’ve recaptured that PvP rush that I felt so long ago.  This is definitely Waaagh!
