I’m leaving on a jet plane…

Technically, I left on a Red Riding Nether Ray, but let’s not quibble over semantics. Plus, really, those words won’t work with the melody of the song. It doesn’t matter what mode of transportation I used to make my exit; all that matters is that I made a quiet exit from my guild this morning. Leaving on a Jet Plane

Every Saturday, I would update the site roster with the actual listing of members within game. If an account didn’t match up, it was deleted off the site. If we had new members who hadn’t made an account on the site, I would create one and send them an e-mail in game with their site information. (Don’t even get me started on the whole enabling of people aspect of that.) This was a weekly ritual.

So today, as I went through the accounts, I noticed a name that wasn’t previously on our roster. Lo and behold, someone has not only guilded Jagbag, but he’s been promoted to full member status. Now, I know he wasn’t there earlier because I would have noticed him on the roster during my weekly updates. However, I haven’t been on that much within the last week due to the fabulous flu and my obsession with my shadow priest.

Since it was relatively early on a Saturday, I quietly did a /gquit. None of the officers were on nor was the guild leader. I am quite sure proper protocol wasn’t followed anyways to guild that person so why bother discussing it with them anyways? Didn’t make sense to make a big stink about it either.

My husband did find the guild leader on Vent and was told that Jagbag has been guilded for three weeks. I think not, but I have since given up arguing with my former guild leader. It’s akin to banging my head against a brick wall.

I then went to the guild site. I granted two founding members complete administrative access; they were already helping me with the site. I then went and found all my posts about the site (how to set timezones, post sigs, link avatars, make an account, etc.) and copied them. These were then reposted under the guild leader’s account.

Some of you are probably wondering how I have access to the guild leader’s account and why I would still have access after I left. We’ve all gamed together for five years, and I’m the only one who bothered to learn anything about running a php-based site. Thus, when it came to administration of the site, I was given all access.

I may not like the direction the guild is going, and I may not agree with the actions of my guild leader, but he knows I would never destroy something I worked so hard to get up and running smoothly. I may be an angry Bansidhe, but I’m not going to be a destructive one.

I think circumstances occur for a reason. Although I feel a tad bummed, I’m actually really relieved. Raiding was really starting to conflict with real life. I would often find myself skipping workouts and staying up way too late to raid, and I wasn’t happy about either of those choices. Now that I’m on a kick to make myself healthier with the warmer months, not having to raid frees up a lot of time for me to enjoy the outdoors, a good book, and my family.

Been there, done that many moons ago and like you, was the admin. for a very large raiding guild and had to keep the Excedrin on hand daily.

I did the same as you, handed over all the admin. rights, pictures, avatars, etc. to the GM and top officers when I finally /gquit It’s the right thing to do.

Enjoy your extra time now and those warmer months coming up. Catch up on that reading and most of all the more ‘family’ time that you’ll now have!

Good for you. Here’s hoping you have better luck with your next guild.. should you choose to join one. I’d invite you to mine if I could! :D

Sounds like your guild took a direction you didn’t care to follow them on. I’d have done the same. (And probably in the same manner. Why let anyone derive any satisfaction from it.)

Many grats to you for your choice. Leaving can be hard, but ultimately it is the most liberating choice one can make.
